Brand Photography for Garden Designers UK: Why Location Matters More Than You Think

As a brand photographer working with creative businesses and garden designers across the UK, one of the most important parts of planning a successful brand photography shoot is choosing a location that supports the story your brand is trying to tell.

When planning a brand photography shoot, it's easy to think of the location as simply a beautiful backdrop. In reality, the space you choose plays a much bigger role. The right location helps communicate your brand identity, attract the right clients, and reinforce your positioning before a single word is read.

This recent brand photography shoot for Gardens by Design was a perfect example.

Working alongside Wildings Studio, we created a collection of imagery for Tanja, founder of Gardens by Design. While the shoot took place in the UK, the photographs needed to resonate with her clientele in Dubai. That meant every decision, from styling and props to the location itself, needed to support a specific message.

A Brand Shoot Isn't Always About Documenting Reality

One of the biggest misconceptions about brand photography is that every image needs to show your actual day-to-day working environment.

Of course, there are times when documenting your real workspace makes sense. But often, the goal of a brand shoot is not simply to record what exists. It's to communicate who you are, how you work, and the experience clients can expect.

For Tanja, the location wasn't chosen because it represented a real client project. It was chosen because it reflected the level of sophistication, elegance and contemporary design that sits at the heart of her brand.

The property became a visual tool that helped tell the story of Gardens by Design.

Choosing a Location That Supports Your Positioning

Because Tanja's target audience is based in Dubai, we needed to think carefully about how the imagery would be perceived by potential clients.

The location needed to feel refined, architectural and aspirational. It needed to provide a setting that aligned with the lifestyle and design standards her clients value.

A carefully chosen location house gave us the flexibility to create a variety of scenes, from consultations and design discussions to lifestyle moments and portraits, all while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

The result was a gallery of images that feels aligned with the brand and speaks directly to the people Tanja wants to attract.

The Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Shoot Location

When planning your own brand photography session, don't start by asking, "Where can I shoot?"

Instead, start by asking:

  • What do I want my brand to communicate?

  • What do prospective clients need to see in order to trust me?

  • What feeling do I want people to have when they land on my website or social media?

  • What aspects of my work or process are most important to showcase?

  • What environment will best support those messages?

The answers to these questions should guide your location choice.

Every Detail Shapes the Story

One of the reasons this shoot was so successful was the amount of intention behind every decision. Together with Wildings Studio, we carefully considered the location, styling, props and shot list to create a visual world that felt completely aligned with the Gardens by Design brand.

We captured portraits, consultations, design process imagery and lifestyle content, creating a versatile library of photographs that tells a much bigger story than headshots alone.

When every detail is considered, your images work harder for your brand.

Because great brand photography isn't just about creating beautiful photographs. It's about creating images that communicate your value, support your positioning and help the right clients see themselves working with you.
