Selling Your Product Through Photos

We have a few seconds to capture OUR CUSTOMER’S attention whilst they are scrolling online. How are you going to stand out?

Here are a few tips to consider when you’re showing up online with your products.

SHOW IT IN ACTION

In other words, have photos of your product being used within context. You want your customers to CONNECT with what they see, and imagine themselves using the product in their own lives. Your customers need to buy into the LIFESTYLE. We make purchases based on our EMOTIONS, so having this type of imagery is incredibly powerful in connecting with your customers.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAIL
It’s really important to show as much detail as you can. Your customers need to see key features and if you can show texture that’s even better. If there are imperfections in the product (which are meant to be there), it’s crucial to show these too, so you can give your customer a clear idea of what they are purchasing. This may require specialist gear like a macro lens - but sometimes you can get away with cropping into the photo. Just be careful you don’t reduce the quality of the image too much by doing so. Your customers want to see exactly what they’re buying, so MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM.

AESTHETICS
Your photographs need to APPEAL to your ideal customers. Why? Because chances are if the image itself appeals to them or it highlights a particular lifestyle that they aspire to have, they are going to emotionally engage with it. Perhaps it’ll play on their desires/aspirations or perhaps they’ll connect with it because they already see the commonality in their own lives. Or perhaps your products address a problem or a worry they have. Either way, your images need to draw in your customers and ENGAGE them emotionally. This can be done on a big scale from a huge set design, right down to the prop selection you choose to support your products.

Consider:
- What setting will be best?
- What background you’ll use to support your product?
- Will you use any props?
- Are there any other styling elements that may help to enhance the beauty of the product?
- Think about the use of colours in your props and surroundings. Mirroring colours in your product by use of props, adds something extra and helps to build an aesthetically pleasing image.
